Love animals? Bon Ton and Temple Tree Resorts are perfect for you.
The sister resorts are associated with the non-profit Langkawi Animal Shelter and Sanctuary (LASSie) Foundation, which rehabilitates local animals in need. Happy cats, and a few dogs, laze around both properties. You can volunteer in the shelter, walk the dogs, or have kitties visit in your villa (but no sleepovers allowed).
You’ll stay in a beautiful antique building: there are 8 Malay kampung houses in Bon Ton, and, at Temple Tree, 12 rooms, 13 suites and 8 villas in antique Chinese, Malay, Indian or Eurasian buildings. All were found in Malaysia, reassembled and restored here, and modern amenities added. Guests can book just one room or an entire building for a reunion of friends or family.
Each room and villa is different, decorated with antique furniture and fabrics from Southeast Asia. All have AC, private bathroom (some under the stars, and some with wooden tubs), mosquito nets, DVD player, toaster and fridge. There are three swimming pools.
Throughout the resorts, watch where you sit — there may be a cat sleeping on the chair!
The Danna Langkawi was designed with beauty in mind — every turn of a corner at this majestic hotel brings a new vista to your eyes.
The Danna is a luxurious old-world colonial hotel, expect that it is all new. Just three years old, its looks are historical, but it is immaculate and has all the modern amenities.
This hotel has 125 rooms (each with balcony). Because they are spread out onto five floors around a huge garden and koi pond, it feels larger. There’s also the Drawing Room – a traditional wine and cigar room, a games room, library, billiards room, meeting rooms, a spa, glass-walled fitness room, and a kids club to fill its grand spaces.
You will be tempted by the three dining venues, offering western, Indian and Asian dishes, as well as English afternoon tea. Menus change frequently so that guests staying for a week won’t get bored.
The three-tiered infinity pool — the biggest on the island of Langkawi — is central to the hotel, and there is an abundance of choice of places to lounge near, or even in it, whether you want sun, shade, or privacy.
The service is impeccable, warm and full of smiles.
If you are looking for a private and relaxing Langkawi experience with attentive staff, Villa Molek is an excellent choice for both short and extended stays.
This boutique hotel features just twelve suites, plus the Kampong (“village”) House, surrounded by lush gardens and a refreshing pool. The bustle of nearby Pentai Cenang beach disappears behind the fish-filled fountains that lead you into the grounds. The Star Anise spa beckons with heavenly reflexology massage and other indulgences.
At Villa Molek they pay attention to detail. The suites are large and well-equipped. The rain shower has Crabtree and Evelyn toiletries. A snack box of fresh fruit and treats awaits your arrival. There is even a scale, to make sure you don’t eat too many treats, or buy more souvenirs than your return flight will allow.
Staff are charming and professional. They remember your name, your preferences at the on-site cafe and restaurant, and they’ll arrange activities for you from their curated collection of excursions. As their website describes, “you don’t have to feel like a typical hotel guest any more”.
There’s a wonderful feeling you get when on an island. And when the entire island is your resort, that feeling is phenomenal.
The Rebak Island Resort is a Taj Hotel, which means it comes with the Taj’s luxurious services and amenities. Yet Rebak Island is relaxed and unpretentious.
Rooms are spacious, linens soft, housekeeping comes twice daily, food is top notch and the spa is heavenly. But the setting is natural, almost rustic, with small buildings hiding in the trees. There is no dress code, and the only reservation you need is if you want to book ‘The Romance Dinner: dinner for two in the private Moon Deck Cabana’, served by your personal butler, surrounded by the sea.
Get away from it all – in luxury – at the Rebak Island Resort.
