Love animals? Bon Ton and Temple Tree Resorts are perfect for you.

The sister resorts are associated with the non-profit Langkawi Animal Shelter and Sanctuary (LASSie) Foundation, which rehabilitates local animals in need. Happy cats, and a few dogs, laze around both properties. You can volunteer in the shelter, walk the dogs, or have kitties visit in your villa (but no sleepovers allowed).

You’ll stay in a beautiful antique building: there are 8 Malay kampung houses in Bon Ton, and, at Temple Tree, 12 rooms, 13 suites and 8 villas in antique Chinese, Malay, Indian or Eurasian buildings. All were found in Malaysia, reassembled and restored here, and modern amenities added. Guests can book just one room or an entire building for a reunion of friends or family.

Each room and villa is different, decorated with antique furniture and fabrics from Southeast Asia. All have AC, private bathroom (some under the stars, and some with wooden tubs), mosquito nets, DVD player, toaster and fridge. There are three swimming pools.

Throughout the resorts, watch where you sit — there may be a cat sleeping on the chair!
