In terms of luxury, the family owned Viceroy Bali has set the bar incredibly high. A favorite place for honeymooners, it’s easy to see that Viceroy Bali is the perfect romantic spot for couples. With sweeping views of the “Valley of the Kings” from each and every private pool villa, it’s hard to leave this paradise.
The resort is a quick 5-minute drive from Ubud. Viceroy Bali has surely earned its 5-star hotel rating, in addition to a list of recent awards including Conde Nast’s “2016 Best Service in the World” and “2015 Best View in the World”. Each of its 25 luxurious one and two-bedroom private pool villas is unforgettable. Each villa has a feeling of intimacy, perfectly crafted to relax among the natural beauty of Bali.
Fine dining can be found on-site at CasCades restaurant, providing guests modern European cuisine with a delightful Asian twist. I enjoyed the soft morning sunlight during my delicious a la carte breakfast. If you’re looking to unwind, the exquisite Lembah Spa has a host of traditional and international spa treatments.
I stayed in a gorgeous “Terrace Villa” which featured a Balé pavilion at the edge of my private infinity pool. The open-plan bedroom was incredibly spacious and well-stocked with bottled water, coffee/tea, and bathroom amenities for an enjoyable stay. The beauty of the villa and private pool was jaw dropping. The perfectly heated pool meant I could enjoy a swim from dusk till dawn. I loved taking a quick dip after a cardio session in the hotel gymnasium.
Don’t miss the main pool, which also includes gorgeous views and a swim-up bar. Regardless if you’re a newlywed, retiree, solo traveler or with family, Viceroy Bali is an experience not to miss.

Not far from the famous Monkey Forest, Alaya Ubud is in the heart of the bustling Balinese arts and cultural city of Ubud. Alaya Ubud features gorgeous rooms, delightful Indonesian and international cuisine, a beautiful pool, and the award-winning DeLa Spa.
The local Balinese culture is reflected in the overall beautiful design of the resort. Rooms are thoughtfully decorated with bamboo accents. The spacious “Alaya Room” I stayed in featured a gorgeous bathtub in a unique setting. Excellent natural lighting, a lovely balcony, and comfortable bed made for a wonderful stay. Freshly picked flowers on the bed and a jackfruit snack were notable small touches. I loved the unique in-room kimonos, in lieu of the typical hotel bathrobes.
The on-site DeLa Spa was voted as the “Best Luxury Spa Group” in Indonesia by the World Luxury Spa Awards. Enjoy relaxing massages and a number of spa treatments at DeLa Spa. Lounging poolside at the Alaya Ubud was lovely with its comfortable sun loungers and helpful staff. It’s the prefect place to cool off and relax for the afternoon.
The Petani Restaurant, which features the finest Indonesian and international cuisine has wonderful dining options throughout the day. I enjoyed fresh breakfast choices and a gorgeous lunch, and I was happily surprised when the staff went above and beyond to cater to my plant-based vegan diet.
Always looking to improve the guest experience, the resort is currently undergoing an exciting property expansion. The project brings new accommodation features such as a second swimming pool, gym, kids’ club, wedding pavilion, and a new restaurant set within an exquisite antique Javanese joglo set in the picturesque rice fields. The exciting improvements should be finished by July 2017.

Your second honeymoon awaits and it’s only minutes from the busy streets of Seminyak, Bali. An impeccably decorated, modern, one-story sanctuary, Astana Batubelig is tucked away on a quiet, dead-end street, just a short romantic stroll to the beach. If that’s not enough to entice you to this tucked away oasis, each villa features the ultimate luxury: its own private pool! Your very own pool for two is only visible to your entire suite and the beautiful blue sky above, meaning clothing is entirely optional.
The villa also has a private dining room and kitchenette where you are served a generous breakfast every morning. Each suite is modern, open and airy. It has a very spacious bedroom, vaulted ceiling, large comfortable bed, two couches, two desks and two floor-to-ceiling French glass doors that look out onto your pool. It’s a his and hers dream!
The bathroom at the back of the villa is even bigger than the dining room. The large, luxurious bathtub and glass-walled shower all have views onto your private patio and pool. With or without the doors open you can relax and enjoy complete privacy and in-room spa service. With this much comfort and privacy, it’s hard to venture out but it’s a great place to return after an adventure-filled day exploring the island.

Luxury and privacy define Mahagiri. All accommodation is in 18 private villas with a private pool behind a high wall. You can choose from one, two or three bedrooms.
The rooms are very lush. Each is decorated differently, although they all have high thatch ceilings which help keep the rooms delightfully cool. You’ll be well entertained with good wifi, lots of TV channels, a DVD player and a supply of magazines.
Bathrooms have a large tub, thoughtfully supplied with candles, bubbles and salts which are refreshed daily. The shower is outdoors (near the pool in the one bedroom villas, in a private room in the larger villas).
Each villa has outdoor living space with sunbeds, dining area and a kitchenette (make sure you have a cup of the very fine TWG tea). The larger villas have indoor living space too.
If you can tear yourself away from your private oasis, the resort’s restaurant serves perfectly prepared ahi tuna and a wide range of other Asian and western dishes. Hotel staff will also drive you down to Sanur beach if you’d like to spend time in the sand (or borrow a bike or walk in about 10 minutes). The spa is excellent and there’s a gym if you’re feeling so inclined.
If you’re looking for 5 star privacy in Bali’s Sanur, Mahagiri is your choice.
